Land of the Headless Women
I recently had the chance to visit the Martian colony of Amazonis Planitia and experience the unique culture of the nation. Known as Amazonis Planitia to earthers but called Ard Al-Jasad in the native tongue, the Amazonians have a unique, yet controversial history over the past 200 years, which lends itself to the nation’s noted extreme gender disparity. While Mars has been terraformed, this region is still a vast desert. Early settlers to the region were approximately 85% men. With a shortage of women, they opted for cloning as a solution. However, at this time on Mars, it was illegal to create a complete clone of a human being – only partial, non-sentient clones were allowed for the purposes of replacement limbs and organs. The Amazonians’ workaround? Make headless clones of women with computers instead of brains.
